Wintering with Curiosity: Connection, Spaciousness, and Heart

Wintering with Curiosity: Connection, Spaciousness, and Heart

12/2/2024

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is." Albert Einstein

Welcome back, everyone.

I invite you to take a moment to move, pause, or simply respond to what your body is calling for—a chance for an energetic reset. Perhaps close your eyes, take respite from the demands and the consumer bustle vying for your attention, and allow yourself a pause. A moment for more heart. A deep breath in. And another breath out.

From my teachers, I am reminded overall how Yoga is a path and practice to liberate your heart. That it takes many forms, but ultimately is a practice of liberation. So take heart: reconnect within, steady and generous toward yourself. Now the yoga begins. Atha Yoga Nusasanam.

New Moon and December blessings to you all.

As my family settles into our new space, I find myself in awe of the nature surrounding us. This morning’s foggy sunrise, nestled among trees and frost, was a gentle reminder of winter’s quiet beauty. Amidst the energy of unpacking and reorienting, I’m holding space for refocus, reverence, and gratitude in this season of wintering.

Big changes ask for much—balancing daily tasks, personal practice, and aligning with the unfamiliar. Lately, I’ve been in my personal practices- receiving, reflecting, and recalibrating. As winter settles in, I look forward to staying steadfast and sharing in our yoga practices that connect, ground, and explore.

It stays with me how deeply a zip code can shape our lives, a reminder of the pressing need for change and a renewed purpose in serving all the unseen others. These are individuals walking their paths with fewer resources, agency, and freedoms—across socio-economic, emotional, and systemic layers.

Can we pause to acknowledge the privilege of choice? And within that pause, might we choose to align with what is more generous—for ourselves and others?

This season invites us to embrace a slower, more spacious pace. Winter’s vata qualities—air and space—offer an invitation for coolness, exploration, and curiosity. Sagittarius, the fiery sign of the season, adds warmth, playfulness, and passion.

How might we lean into these themes of possibility, curiosity, and stepping beyond the familiar? Can we release rigid expectations and trust the process of expansion? As we welcome the new moon and this final month of the year, might we consider expanding our vision of what is possible—trusting deeply in ourselves and embracing a broader comfort zone?

When we recognize the power of choice, can we act in ways that stretch us? To hold space for discomfort? To stay curious toward the possibilities of expansion?

Perhaps this looks like adding a commitment to your calendar: connecting with someone, donating, volunteering, or sharing your comfort to expand your capacity for generosity. How can you be generous with others and with yourself?

Maybe it’s through the fire of tapas—a nourishing self-discipline that supports your vitality. Recommit to your self-care: tend to what you ingest, how you express, and what you offer to the world. In doing so, we cultivate a foundation for generosity.

“Just as the vast cosmos are infinite, so too is universal potential. To settle is to hinder freedom and liberation; to expand is to rewrite beliefs of what we think is possible. When we recognize each moment as limitless potential, we become expansive in our wholeness.” Cherreson & Rice

My yoga offerings will draw on the luminosity of winter and Sagittarius, channeling fire, passion, expansion, exploration and generosity. Together, let’s explore renewal, connection, and possibility as we journey through this season.

Here with you in practice. In love & light.
